Diagnostic description:
Colony stolonal, hydrotheca borne on a short pedicel, campanulate or cylindrical, usually with annular thickening and thin membranous diaphragm. Hydranth with conical hypostome. Gonotheca solitary, originating from hydrorhiza, with or without opercular flaps. Swimming gonophore with or without a velum, four radial canals, four marginal reduced tentacles or atentaculate bulbs, and gametes on the spadix.
