Named for Pearson Island, South Australia, where specimens of this species were first collected.
Hydrorhiza tubular, creeping on algal surface.
Stems short, arising irregularly from the hydrorhiza, proximal stem region of same diameter as the hydrorhiza, deeply ridged, perisarc thick. Stems bearing two to seven hydrothecae, thecate internodes long, usually one, but sometimes two internodes occurring between successive hydrothecae. Proximal node of hydrothecate internode constricted, gibbous just above the node, then expanding to hydrothecal margin. Each succeeding internode given off from just below the diaphragm of preceding one, projecting outwards.
Hydrotheca shallow, diaphragm distinct, perisarc indented at diaphragm, a ring of large desmocytes above diaphragm, margin not everted. Secondary hydrothecae rare, but when present, these arise from the diaphragm of a primary hydrotheca.
Hydranth large, with 18 - 20 stubby tentacles.
Australia (Western Australia, South Australia).
Subtidal, epiphytic on algae.
