SUMMARY
A. minuscula displays a wide choice of substrate. Some correlation evidently exists between stem type and environmental conditions, since the "long internode" form was abundant sheltered sites, whereas the more robust "short internode" form is found in more turbulent waters. This suggests that development of a thickened stem with short internodes is advantageous to withstand rough water conditions.
