Aglaophenia brachiata
There has been confusion in the past concerning the identity of Aglaophenia brachiata and Aglaophenia crucialis Lamouroux, 1816. Although superficially similar in some aspects of hydrothecal morphology and corbula, the colonies differ markedly in structure: while both species form large colonies, A. crucialis is typically flabellate with long hydrocladia (see Ritchie 1911, pI. 86, fig. 1) while A. brachiata is arborescent and rather bushy. A. brachiata is a rare species with few records of actual findings.
